Post FotB words
I had originally planned to write a HUGE article about Flash on the Beach 2007 but after taking several weeks to recover and another several weeks to put finger to keyboard, I thought it better to share a few memorable quotes from some of the speakers. These were taken from the notes I made for the presentations that I attended, so any exclusions do not infer that these speakers were any better than the others – they were all bloody good! If you didn’t make it and are kicking yourself for not attending, make a solemn oath to get yerself down (or up) there next September.
Joshua Davis – Dynamic Abstraction
- “It’s hard to see your environment when you’re in your environment.”
- “Look for the visible invisible.”
- “Obsess the details, visually justify everything.”
- “Difficult is easy, simple is harder.”
- “Make love for love, not for awards or acceptance.”
- “Work like hell.”
Craig Swann – Perceptive Interactions and Alternative Interfaces
- “Happiness is the fuel of creativity.”
- “Work less, play more.”
- “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”
Robert Hodgin – Breaking away
- “Mistakes are your friends.”
- “Start simple.”
Jared Tarbell – Algorithms to Fill Space
- “Try to program at least one thing a day.”
Andre Michelle – Klangfabrick
- “I’m not hungry when I listen to techno.”
OK, he wasn’t a presenter but deserves a mention anyway – John Davey (FotB organiser)
- “Did you see? There was a girl in a BOX!”
Feel free to send in any quotes that stuck out in your mind..
Many thanks to John Davey for organising such an amazing event. Rock on FotB 2008!
